As of 13:48 pm Saturday east time in the US, Mozilla has
recorded 15,353,384 downloads of its Firefox 3 web browser, the world best of
its kind.
The company launched the new version on Download Day Tuesday
hoping to make a Guinness record high volume of downloads in a single day.
The first 24 hours actually registered more than 8 million
downloads, surpassing the expected 5 million.
There are more than 1 7,000 changes made to improve the user
experience, security and performance of the free, open source software, the
company says.
Mozilla tells supporters on its website that it takes a few
days for the Guinness fella to review the documents on the download record and
make an official announcement.
Some people say the attempt to create a Guinness World
Record for most software downloaded in a day is silly.
Regardless, at least those who have tried Firefox 3 may have
known that the product resulting from efforts from thousands of contributors
provides a faster downloading speed.
The company says the download speed can be two to three times
higher compared to its predecessor.
