Doane Pet Care yesterday June 6 issued a voluntary recall on a specific single lot of 55 pound bonus bags of Ol'Roy Complete Nutrition dry dog food due to possible contamination of Salmonella.

The affected product was manufactured at a facility in Manassas, VA and distributed solely by some Wal-Mart Stores.

This recall does not affect any other Ol'Roy products and is unrelated to the Menu Foods recall of pet foods, which is due to contaminated vegetable proteins.

Doane urges pet owners to exercise caution when they handle this pet food because there may be a risk of exposure to Salmonella.   They are advised to thoroughly wash their hands after handling this pet food.

The Dry god food bearing the code "04 0735 1" with a best by Apr 13 08" should not be given to their pets, the company advises.

The recall was issued after the Food and Drug Administration detected salmonella in the product. However, Diane has not confirmed presence of this pathogen in the dog food, according to the recall state by the company.

No illnesses have been reported associated with use of the dry dog food.   But Doane Pet Care says it regrets "any inconvenience to pet owners."

The recalled dog food is described as follows, cited from the recall statement by the company:
