Monday Nov 24, 2008 (foodconsumer.org) -- It's time for
seniors to sign up for 2009 prescription drug coverage through Medicare. The
sign up period is between Nov. 15 and Dec 31, according to Los Angeles Times.
Those turning 65 in 2009 may sign up any day between three
months before and three months after their birthdays. The Dec 31 deadline does
not affect their enrollment, the newspaper says.
Because there are big changes in coverage, seniors are
advised to consider carefully about their options in terms of premiums, drug
prices, deductibles, co-pays and the drugs covered in optional plans.
Drug converge program known as Medicare Part D was
launched in 2006 to help people ages
60
or older who have no other prescription drug insurance and for younger people
who receive social security benefits.
Those who do not sign up will be automatically enrolled
in the plan you had last year if you were enrolled in a plan.
