Do you know vi.tamin C lowers .blood pres.sure?

Saturday October 11, 2008 (foodconsumer.org) -- The California Board of Directors controlling the Golden Gate Bridge on Oct 10 voted 14 to 1 to build a suicide barrier to prevent future suicides.

An estimated 1,300 people have jumped from the bridge and died intentionally over the past decades.   Each year about two dozen people kill themselves at the bridge.

The net made of wire rope coated with plastic would hang below the walkways.   Jumpers would be trapped in the net and no further action would be possible giving rescuers time to fish them out.

The cost of the metal net would cost Californians anywhere between $40 million to $50 million.   Opponents fear that the add-on structure would negate aesthetics of the bridge.

For more information about the bridge, read here.
