Korshunova, a super model, jumped to death

Ruslana Korshunova, a supermodel, was found dead at 130 Water Street in Manhattan's Financial District on June 28, 2008 at around 2:30 p.m. apparently after falling from the ninth-floor balcony of her apartment.   She was 20.

Police found no signs of a struggle in her apartment and concluded that the supermodel’s death is a suicide although media suggests that she may be a victim of a Russian Mafia.

At least one of her friends found it hard to believe that Korshunova had committed suicide because she apparently was "on the top of the world” after returning from a modeling gig in Paris not long ago.

Artem Perchenok, Korshunova's boyfriend, said he dropped Korshunova off at her apartment several hours just before her death after they watched the Demi Moore film Ghost together.

But there is no reporting that death has anything to do with the movie.

However, she had lately appeared brokenhearted and angry as indicated in some of her postings on a social networking site.

Her postings suggested she seemed to have been struggling emotionally. One message reads as posted three months ago "I'm so lost. Will I ever find myself?"

Another posting reads: "It hurts, as if someone took a part of me, tore it out, mercilessly stomped all over and threw it out." One entry in March reads: "My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow it is too high."

At a time, she did not seem to be happy with herself.   One posting reads revealing her anger: "I'm a bitch. I'm a witch. I don't care what you say ... I know why my other relationships didn't work out, 'cause I'm unpredictable."

Korshunova was born in Almaty, Kazakh SSR and drew the attention from the fashion industry in 2003 when All Asia Magazine published a story on Almaty's local German language club.

Debbie Jones of Models 1 tracked down and signed up the then 15-year-old Korshunova. Ever since, she was represented by a number of agencies including IMG, Beatrice, Traffic Models, Marilyn Models and iCasting Moscow.

Korshunova had modeled for the magazine covers of Elle (France), Vogue (Poland) and Vogue (Russia). In print-ads, she also modeled for a number of organizations including Blugirl by Blumarine, Clarins, Ghost, Girbaud and Kenzo Accessories, to name a few.
