Regular use of mobile phones increases the risk of developing tumors, according to a new study by Israeli researchers who published their study in the American Journal of Epidemiology Friday, AFP reported.
The study added evidence that use of mobile phone increases risk for developing tumors. Some studies have found an increased risk of a number of tumors including brain tumor in heavy users of mobile phone.
The industry has early sponsored some studies that found no association between use of mobile phone, but such studies only considered data for less than ten years of exposure to the cell phone radiation while tumors are likely to develop ten years after exposure.
The current study showed, according to an Israel newspaper, that people used mobile phone for more than 22 hours per month faced 50 percent increased risk for a parotid gland tumor.
For the study, Dr Siegal Sadetzki and colleagues at the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre in Israel examined data from 402 benign and 58 malignant incident cases of parotid gland tumor recorded in Israel during the period of 2001 to 2003. Patients were aged 18 years or older.
