The true and shocking revelations about one of the world’s most controversial companies
San Francisco, CA. ( August 28, 2008) – The Institute for Responsible Technology celebrates the largest festival of American food in history this Labor Day weekend with its US premiere of the enthusiastically received and hotly debated expose: The World According to Monsanto on Friday August 29, 11:30 am at the Roxie theatre with additional showings on Saturday 4 PM; Sunday 4PM and Monday 11:30 M. The film by journalist Marie-Monique turns the spotlight on this 100-year-old company, which has manufactured some of the most toxic products ever marketed, for example PCB and Agent Orange.
Monsanto's Controversial History
Now a leader in GMO, Monsanto purports itself to be a “life sciences” company, dedicated to stopping hunger and converted to the virtues of sustainable development. But, behind the mask of an exemplary company, its history is full of worrying episodes that indicate a desire for market supremacy threatening food safety, long term human health, and the ecological balance of the planet.
This special event is hosted by renown activist Jeffrey M. Smith, international bestselling author of Seeds of Deception and Genetic Roulette. Host Jeffrey Smith will also premiere his short film about Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone, Your Milk on Drugs—Just Say No! Mr. Smith will lead a discussion about the Campaign for Healthier Eating in America, a new grassroots movement designed to achieve the tipping point of consumer rejection of GMOs before the end of 2009.
