The dairy-melamine scandal in China has shocked the
world. The adulterated milk products have killed at least three infants and
sickened more than 50,000 in mainland China.
The US has strict inspection procedures and cow milk does
not contain melamine for sure. But I do not give my child cow milk. Instead he
has been drinking soy milk for more than two years.
I do this because in 2006 I read two books by Jane Plant
who is a British Geological chemist, one titled "Your Life in Your Hands
and the other "The No-Dairy Breast Cancer Prevention Program".
Professor Plant believes that people should avoid cow
milk just like they should avoid smoking.
This conclusion is based her own personal experience. At
the age of 50 years, Prof. Plant was diagnosed with breast cancer. During the
ten years after diagnosis, she had been subjected to a number of surgeries and
a couple of dozens of radiation treatments and chemotherapies.
But the cancer kept coming back.
At the fifth time, the cancer with the size
of half an egg appeared in her neck, doctors said she had a few months to live.
In desperation, she decided no longer to trust her
doctors. As a matter of fact, trusting her doctors would not help her anyway at
this time because she was "sentenced" to death!
She wanted to save herself so she did
research on cancer treatment just like she conducted her academic work.
Professor Plant's husband is a geologist. The couple
visited china in the 80s for some environmental protection issues.
One day, she suddenly recalled while she was in China, a
local colleague mentioned to her that the rate of breast cancer among Chinese
women is far much lower than the rate among Western women.
She did some research and found that Asian women who live
in the West have the same rate of breast cancer as the local Western women.
She asked her husband why women in China rarely get
breast cancer.
The only possible reason
they can think of is that the breast cancer risk has something to do with diet.
When they visited China and they found that Chinese
people except those who are rich and powerful rarely drink cow milk or eat dairy
products. By contrast, dairy products are a major staple in the West.
Professor Plant decided to give it a try to quit the
habit of eating two cups of yogurt a day.
To her surprise, six weeks passed and the tumor
disappeared!
Before she started avoiding dairy products, she already
started using a vegetarian diet.
During
the six weeks, the only change was no intake of dairy product.
Professor Plant is a distinguished scientist.
Colleagues witnessed her suffering and
recovery. When they knew any of their relatives suffered cancer, they told them
to ask professor Plant for help. Professor Plant helped cure more than 60 women
(with cancer) by adjusting their lifestyle including diet.
