A recent study suggested that drinking alcoholic beverages such as wine increases the risk of many cancers.
The study reviewed 156 previous studies. The evidence is strong that drinking alcohol is associated with increased risk of cancers of the up digestive tract and larynx, the intestines, liver, and breast.
While moderate drinking of wine was found to lower the risk of cardiovascular diseases, drinking alcohol is not recommended for those who do not drink now. Those who have the liver functions comprised need to avoid alcohol.
The study appeared in a recent issue of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
Comment: The bottom line: alcohol is a cancer-causing agent, which is not news!
