A Japanese study showed that all-trans retinoic acid treatment got a 64-year old man with NPM-RAR-positive APL into remission, which was maintained for 18 months with "consolidation chemotherapy".
Okazuka K from Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital in Niigata, Japan and colleagues reported their finding in the October 2007 issue of International Journal of Hematology suggesting that ATRA can be used to treat APL patients with NPM/RAR as well as APL with PML/RAR.
